Cold war
The cold war began after WWII. The two main enemies were the U.S.A and the Soviet Union. It got that name because both sides were afraid of fighting each other directly. The two enemies had clashed economically, politically, and military wise. The U.S was trying to spread democracy while the Soviet Union was promoting communism. To help contribute to the war the U.S was fighting and helping other country's that were't accepting communism. During the cold war lots of slander was going on. Each country was trying to make the other look foolish this added to the tension that was already there. President truman previously had dropped two atomic bombs in WWII. The soviet union knew we were capable of such destruction which is probably one of the reasons they chose to sign the treaty. The cold war turned out to be something big that could've been avoided by practicing containment.
